“The Horse and the Auspicious Bird” is handcrafted from wood by Hội An artisans, bringing together two symbolic figures. The horse represents strength, perseverance, and forward movement, while the bird perched upon its back carries wishes of freedom, joyful news, and good fortune – a meaningful message as Tết, the Vietnamese Lunar New Year, approaches.
Created by Hội An artisans, the sculpture celebrates the signature lacquer and hand-finishing techniques of Làng Củi Lũ – Driftwood Village. Its tall, simplified form is enriched with deep red lacquer, antiqued black and silver tones, and warm golden details. The naturally distressed surface gives each piece its own character, preserving the traces and warmth of something made by hand.
Symbolizing progress, auspicious news, and good fortune, “The Horse and the Auspicious Bird” makes a meaningful Tết gift for family, friends, or business partners. It also brings a strong sculptural presence to the home – carrying a wish for promising journeys and new opportunities in the year ahead.
