After many days of preparation, Làng Củi Lũ (Driftwood Village) officially welcomed its first groups of visitors to our new space at 01 Lê Hồng Phong Street, Hội An Tây, Vietnam, beginning a new chapter in the story of wood, craftsmanship, art, and creativity in Hoi An.
One of the first memorable experiences was a special visit by more than 100 guests from Aliat, who joined us for an afternoon of exploration and a hands-on woodcarving workshop in Hoi An.
The new space quickly came alive.
There were conversations between guests and artisans, laughter shared around the workshop tables, the rhythmic sound of chisels meeting wood, and the quiet concentration that comes with creating something by hand.
For us, it was more than simply welcoming a group of visitors. It was the first opportunity to see how the stories of Làng Củi Lũ (Driftwood Village) could continue in this new home.
Explore the Driftwood Museum: The Journey of Củi Lũ
One of the central experiences in our new space is the Driftwood Museum, where visitors can discover the story behind Củi Lũ and the remarkable journey of driftwood.
Here, wood is not simply a material.
Each piece carries traces of a journey, shaped by water, weather, time and the landscapes through which it has travelled.
The Driftwood Museum invites visitors to look at these materials differently and discover how nature’s remnants can become part of an artistic story.
Through the collection and exhibition, guests can learn more about the origins of Củi Lũ (Driftwood), the relationship between driftwood and craftsmanship, and the creative philosophy that has shaped the project.
It is a space for slowing down and looking more closely.
A piece of wood that might otherwise be overlooked can reveal a surprising form, texture or character when seen through the eyes of an artist.
The Driftwood Museum in Hoi An is therefore not only a museum of objects. It is a place to explore the journey of materials, people and ideas that have shaped Làng Củi Lũ (Driftwood Village).

Alongside the Driftwood Museum, visitors can explore the Driftwood Gallery, a dedicated exhibition space presenting a diverse selection of contemporary and fine art.
The gallery brings together works by Vietnamese and international artists, offering visitors an opportunity to discover different artistic perspectives within the same space.
The collection spans a variety of mediums, including painting, sculpture, lacquer, oil painting, acrylic, silk, ceramics and other mixed-media works.
This diversity creates a dialogue between different materials, techniques, cultures and artistic approaches.
Some works explore traditional Vietnamese aesthetics, while others take a more contemporary direction. Together, they reflect the richness and diversity of artistic expression in Vietnam and beyond.
For art lovers visiting Hoi An, the Driftwood Gallery offers another perspective on the city’s creative landscape, a space where visitors can encounter both established traditions and contemporary interpretations of art.
From Visitors to Creators: A Hands-On Woodcarving Workshop
One of the highlights of the day was the hands-on woodcarving workshop in Hoi An.
After exploring the exhibition spaces, guests picked up their own chisels and began working with wood.
For many participants, this was their first experience with woodcarving. The process was simple but deeply engaging: choosing a piece of wood, learning how to handle the tools, making the first cut, and gradually seeing a shape emerge.
A workshop like this offers something different from a conventional cultural tour.
Instead of simply observing a traditional craft, visitors become part of the creative process.
Every mark made by the chisel is slightly different. Every piece develops its own character. And every finished creation carries a small memory of the person who made it.
That is what makes a woodcarving experience in Hoi An so meaningful, it allows visitors to take home not only an object, but also an experience of making something with their own hands.
A New Space, The Same Story
Moving into a new space does not mean leaving the story behind.

Our new home at 01 Lê Hồng Phong Street, Hội An Tây brings together different aspects of the Củi Lũ experience:

- Driftwood Gallery: explore paintings, sculptures and mixed-media artworks by Vietnamese and international artists.
- Hands-on Woodcarving Workshops: experience traditional craftsmanship by working directly with wood and creating something of your own.
Together, these spaces create a destination where visitors can move from discovering, to observing, to creating.
The first visit by Aliat was therefore more than an opening moment.
It was a first glimpse of what this next chapter could become.
Art, Craftsmanship and Cultural Experiences in Hoi An
For visitors to Hoi An, discovering the city can go far beyond its famous ancient streets.
The region has a rich tradition of craftsmanship, from woodwork and ceramics to painting, sculpture, lacquer, silk and other forms of traditional and contemporary art.
